(and Start a New Folder) You know it could happen. Every type of electronic device, including computer hard drives, or drives of any kind, can fail. How bad would it be if your hard drive died right now? How much would you lose? Precious family photos, important financial data, whatever. With today's small, inexpensive, HUGE external hard drives, it's easier than ever to make backup copies of your important things. Or you could back up to a portable thumb drive / flash drive, or burn your data to CD or DVD. Don't cry to me when you lose your stuff!! Data Organization Do you keep everything you've got in one single "My Documents" folder? It can get a little hard to find things, if it's full of hundreds of documents, etc. Every time there's a new year, you can create a sub-folder in "My Documents", with the name of the year. Then, if you wish, you can create further sub-folders within that year's folders, to keep your stuff organized. Data Organization + Backup = Peace of Mind If you organize your data into yearly folders, and make backups at least once a year, especially at the end of the year, you can eventually delete a whole year's folder of data, (maybe several years later) with the comfort of knowing that you've got a backup of that entire year. |
A watched pot never boils, and a booting computer never finishes booting while you're in front of it, trying to use it. To prevent yourself from going insane, always go do something else for 10 or so minutes after powering your computer on: empty the dishwasher, hang up some clothes from the dryer, make the bed, clean off your workbench for the next project, brush your teeth, anything... A PC is lightning fast when you first buy it, but the speed never seems to last! Some folks believe that the software and the hardware manufacturers have a sinister plot to keep everybody needing a new computer every few years. If you're so inclined, do a Google Search for computer conspiracy theories. Here's a more reasonable article called 7 Reasons Why Computers Run Slower as They Get Older |
