Hi, my name is Doreen Vargas, I use to live in Lakeville MA, now in Florida. I am emailing to see if somehow I can find a commericial from the 1960's. When I was seven, my Aunt Joy worked at the station in New Bedford. They brought me in and had me do a Bunny bread commercial. My name at that time was Doreen Boivin, not sure if that is a help but would love to find that commercial. I have been trying to figure out how I can it or find someone who might know how. Any info you could provide me with would be soooo appreciated. Thanks.

I forwarded the eMail to WTEV veteran Frank Clynes, but I didn't hold out much hope of recovering any video material from those days.

Bunny Bread was the brand name of Guisti's Bakery on Purchase Street in New Bedford. The owner, Joe Guisti recently died at the age of 97. She might have some luck contacting members of his family.

I can't help (of course) reuniting this lady with her commercial from the 1960s (fifty-plus years ago!). For the record, though, Guisti Baking company produced Sunbeam Bread, with a smiling little blonde girl, Little Miss Sunbeam, as its logo. (Hence, this lady cutting a commercial, I suppose.)

For a while in the early 1950s, Sunbeam's theme was "Reach for the Best in Bread." I was personally in the WBSM radio studios - built by, among others, the Guisti Baking Company when a classic "blooper" was made by announcer Bill Rossi. Rossi was a nice guy and became a busy radio announcer after graduating from Emerson College (I think) in Boston.

Anyway, Junior Achievement sponsored, along with Sunbeam/Guisti, a weekly variety half-hour operated by New Bedford High School students, including me. Rossi did a Sunbeam commercial - live - on our first show in the series. Nervous, he of course told our listeners to be sure and "Reach for the Breast in Bed" before we all collapsed into giggles. [Cue the standby fill music.]

That phrase was left out of all copy that we did for Sunbeam for the remainder of the series.

Pete Mandell is mistaken. My great grandfather was John Giusti and Giusti Baking Company produced Giusti's Bunny Bread. Sunbeam was a different brand. Very sad that both have gone out of business. So many people remember them and worked there when they were younger. I believe at one time they may have even made a brand called Tommy Tucker but I'm not sure.
