Jenkings had been at 'TEV for a couple of years and I had just started. I got orders to pull out a bunch of old cables that passed through the studio from the projection area. It was a long pull. On a Sunday morning Jenks had nothing to do in projection so I asked him to keep an eye on the cable in the studio as I pulled from the control room end and let me know if it snarled. After a few minutes I couldn't pull anymore. It was stuck. Back in the studio I found him sitting on the piano with the cable knotted around the leg of the piano. He put on his best southern dialect: "White boy, you gotta be REAL strong if you gonna pull this here piano through that itty-bitty hole!: It was a risk - someone else might have been really pissed. I saw the humor in it and with a smile told him: "You black bastard - you get hold of that cable and I'll pull you through with it!" We both about rolled on the floor laughing at each other and a friendship was born. |
