Larry Upton signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers after graduating High School in 1950. An infielder, he played in the Dodger minor league farm system as a 2nd baseman/Shortstop.
Upton missed a season and a half of baseball when he was drafted into the Army after his 1952 minor league season. He saw combat in the Korean war. He resumed his baseball life upon discharge from the Army in July of 1954. He was released by the Dodgers in 1956. After baseball, he was one of the first ex-players asked to become a radio sports broadcaster for the major market broadcast outlet of Boston. Several years later he added television to his resume when he was asked to be the Sports anchorman for the 6pm & 11pm newscast on a station in the Boston/Providence Market. Followed by an offer to write a weekly "Upton on Sports" commentary that was syndicated throughout New England states weekly and daily newspaper publications. His "Upton on Sports" radio interviews were also syndicated and played on independent radio stations throughout the New England area. Larry Upton enjoyed a 35 year career on Radio & Televison and interviewed just about every star or super star of all the Major League Sports teams from the 1950's to 1980's. He now wants to share with a new generation of sports fans his interviews with players, managers, club owners, sports commissioners of past generations that have made our Major League teams of the MLB - NFL- NBA - NHL what they are today. | |
