from Jim Donnelly Nov 26, 2004 Ray worked as a director at WTEV. Remembered as being quite "high strung". A "real joy" to work on a camera crew under his direction.
A Google search for "Ray Terchiak" turned up a director-editor credit for a Northeastern University 99-minute tape described as follows: a case study of the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company's entry into the financial services industry. Examines Hancock's growth and diversification within the industry from 1968-1984. Reviews some of the internal organizational concerns and external forces faced by the C.E.O. of a company undergoing diversification.
Submitted by Jim Gershman July 27, 2009 After Ch. 6, Terchiak found his way to WJAR-TV, where he was a weekend/relief director. Then, around 1978, he moved to WSBE-TV, where his "Wake of '38" earned a New England Emmy for best doc. I knew Ray when he worked at WSBE-TV, where I was the director of information services (PBS-speak for promotion manager). Despite his "jumpy" nature (aptly but humorously described below), Ray was arguably the most professional director that that station had (or ever had). But his term there was short. As the "junior" guy, he was let go in a funding cutback before the Emmy win was announced. He went to Saudi Arabia for a 2-year gig videotaping surgical procedures for an international hospital management firm. Then, it was back to the US, for video stints at Northeastern University and a Belo station down south, classical music announcing on public radio in Maine and Connecticut. Is now or was in the recent past doing video at Vanderbilt U. in Tennessee. Changed his name to Raymond Edwards in late 1980s when he moved to on-air radio work.
Stories We Heard
Submitted by Jim Donnelly Nov 26, 2004I remember Ray being fond of jumping from the 1st platform on the stairs down to the lobby floor. He was jumpy and "high energy" while directing the news, also.
