Hello "viewers"... I was just rolling through some old posts and feeds and happened upon your page....and BOOM...the memories started to come back. My dad was Si Belli, long since gone. Si's first name was actually Italo, meaning "of Italy." He was a New Bedford native. Si's handlebar mustache was one of his distinctive features, as was his sly smile. He never had a mean word for anyone, and he was a fun cut-up with everyone. When on leave or pass from the Army, I used to go fishing on weekends with Dad and Andy Nechesnoff. Went out to Nantucket and back to Padanaram on Paul Pappas' boat one weekend. (Paul was THE live news cameraman for Channel 6, and I got to "cover" a Harlem Globetrotters visit to new Bedford with him as his "go-fer"). I remember having coffee at the old Orchid Diner with the "gang" along with Athena Parker and the others. So many good people! So long ago... Thank you... Warmest regards...David |
