Heresy on Channel 6?
from Frank Clynes Apr 28, 2022

The pastor of the Grace Church in New Bedford, the Reverend Phillip Douglas, was an interesting character.

His deacons suggested he invite leaders of other faiths to address his congregation from the pulpit, from time to time.

Rev. Douglas did something that would've been unthinkable a few years earlier. He extended an invitation to Richard Cardinal Cushing of Boston. That's not exactly what his deacons had in mind. A Methodist perhaps, or a Lutheran.

When they voiced their concerns about a Catholic, he told them the question was moot. The Cardinal had already accepted his invitation, and Douglas had penciled him in for the following month. It had never been done before. WTEV-6 agreed to air the service live, another first.

On another occasion, Douglas took some time off to march with Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, Alabama.
