Got to know Charlie Taylor pretty well during my stay at WTEV. During that time, I lived in Mattapoisett, and Charlie was also one of my neighbors. He used to come knocking on my door if it was stormy weather on his day off. He hated it when that happened, great weather to talk about----and he wasn't working. Darn!. We'd bundle up and walk over to the dock at Mattapoisett harbor (about a block away) and experience the rain/wind/snow.

Last time I saw Charlie was in 1987. I was on a visit to the East Coast around Philadelphia. Late one night, I was doing something I'd been doing since I bought my first transitor radio as a kid. Tuning into AM radio to see what faraway stations I could get late at night. Sometimes when I couldn't get right back to sleep I'd tune in to late-night talk radio. On this particular night, I noticed that I was listening to a show on WHAS in Louisville, Kentucky.

When they went to the local break, it caught my attention. "News is next and then Chuck Taylor with the weather..." I heard the announcer say. Hmmmm.. I thought... Could that be Charlie? When the weather slot started, I quickly recognized Charlie's voice and style.

Was leaving within the next day or so and heading to a new job in the Rocky Mountains. Looked at a road map and thought, "what the hey, it's almost along the way." Called the station, and sure enough, it was Charlie. "Actually, it's Chuck now Bob." We had a great visit and caught up on old times.

In just the past six months (2009), I'd been trying to get info on his whereabouts and checked on the web. Saddened to learn that he had passed away from cancer in 1997.
