Vance Eckersley
Mr. Eckersley was the general manager of WGBI (radio) and WDAU (television) in Scranton, Pa., WTEV-TV in Providence, R.I.,-New Bedford, Mass. and WVEU-TV in Atlanta, Ga. He retired from his career in television in 1995.
Obituary

Vance L. Eckersley, 86, of Pompano Beach, died at home Monday, July 2, 2001, following an illness. He was the husband of Virginia (Shackley) Eckersley; they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Aug. 9, 2000.

Born in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late Jacob and Reba Jenkins Eckersley. He was a member of the Elm Park Methodist Church. Under his direction, the Midwinter Institutes held at this church became an important community endeavor.

He was a graduate of Central High School and received his bachelor's degree from St. Thomas College (now the University of Scranton). He attended Duke University Law School at Durham, N.C., and received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1940. He received his certified public accountant degree in 1947. He was an instructor in law and taxation at the University of Scranton from 1946 to 1949. He was a partner in the Scranton law firm of Fitzgerald, Kennedy, Eckersley and O'Brien.

He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater as communications officer aboard the ill-fated troop ship, the USS Grant.
